As part of recent updates to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), quarterly funding periods have now been introduced for participant plans. These changes apply only to new plans that start from 19 May 2025 onwards. The adjustment is designed to give participants and providers better control over funding allocations and to help ensure supports are delivered consistently throughout the life of each plan.
If you’re an NDIS participant, Support Coordinator, or Plan Manager, understanding these changes is important for planning services and keeping participant goals on track.
What Has Changed?
Previously, many participants had access to their full NDIS funding upfront for the duration of their plan (often 12 months). For new plans starting from 19 May 2025 onwards, certain plan categories will have their funding released in quarterly instalments—every three months—rather than in a single amount at the beginning. This adjustment applies only to those new or renewed plans starting from that date. It means that available funds will refresh at set intervals, helping participants budget more evenly and manage their services across the life of their plan.
Why the Change?
The introduction of quarterly funding is aimed at improving the way supports are planned and delivered. By providing regular funding releases, the NDIS hopes to:
- Support more consistent service delivery over the full plan period.
- Encourage ongoing budget monitoring to reduce the risk of running out of funds before a plan ends.
- Allow for flexibility and adjustments as participants’ needs evolve.
What Does This Mean for You?
Whether you’re receiving NDIS-funded services yourself or supporting participants through your role, it’s important to stay informed about how these funding periods work.
Here are a few key considerations:
- Plan Service Schedules Thoughtfully: Knowing that funding is released quarterly, it’s a good idea to review cleaning and gardening services to make sure they’re scheduled in line with the participant’s needs and budget across each funding period.
- Monitor Budgets Regularly: Keeping an eye on how funds are used within each quarter will help prevent any gaps in service or overspending.
- Communicate Early: If you need to make adjustments to a participant’s service schedule, start the conversation early—either with your Support Coordinator, Plan Manager, or directly with our team.
